“Fear No Weather.”
The ironwood grows where nothing else will.
Traditional Tang Soo Do on Dixie Highway in Waterford Township — hyung, self-defense and non-contact sparring for ages five and up, taught by a certified instructor of the World Tang Soo Do Association.
Why Ironwood
Named for a tree that refuses to quit.
The ironwood is among the hardiest plants there is — it thrives in ground that defeats everything around it. That is the whole idea behind this studio, and it is why our students say “Fear No Weather” to each other.
We are not trying to turn out the flashiest martial artists in Oakland County. We are trying to build people who keep going when it is hard — on the mat, at school, at work, at home. The kicking is how we get there.
Just as trees grow and bloom at different times, every student advances at a pace that is right for them. Beginners are never the odd one out here; half the room was standing exactly where you are.

This is bigger than one studio
A room in Waterford, connected to seventeen countries.
Ironwood is a certified studio of the World Tang Soo Do Association, in Region 5 — Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin — under Regional Director Master Jeff Wheeler of Flint.
That affiliation is not a logo in the footer. It means our belts are recognized worldwide, our black belts train at Region 5 camps every year, and our students compete at Worlds against 1,800 practitioners from seventeen countries.
2026 Fall Extravaganza
Region 5’s fall tournament is being hosted right up the road in Frankenmuth this year — October 16–18, 2026 at the Kearn Pavilion. If you have been waiting for the right one to enter, this is it.
Early-bird pricing ends September 27; registration closes October 3.

“I am thrilled to write this and even happier to have found Mr. Bugala. I have been through a lot in the last couple of years and have been wanting to get involved in martial arts to help gain confidence, discipline, and learn. This has exceeded my expectations. I know that this is the right place for me, I have been so happy to have found Ironwood Martial Arts. Mr. Bugala is so patient and kind and awesome, I can’t express enough gratitude for helping me find my spark. This place is amazing!”Faith A.
“I have trained with Mr. Bugala and was taken aback by his passion to the art of Tang Soo Do. He is very thorough, practices continuously, and is dedicated to accuracy and details while demonstrating these qualities to his students. He loves to learn different venues of the art while also sharing his finding with others. There is much compassion to the art and many others have come to love. It was indeed a blessing that our paths cross. He has given and taught me a lot. Anyone who trains with him will see the respect he gives and will receive great guidance and training!”Angela G.
“Mr. Bugala is an absolutely incredible instructor! He has serious skills, knowledge, and a passion to teach. He’s always patient and encouraging, and always pushes you to do your best. I’ve learned so much from him, and cannot recommend him enough. If you’re interested in martial arts, you should definitely give him a try!”Michael B.

Twenty videos, so you can practice at home.
Mr. Bugala has filmed the whole curriculum — the Sae Kye and Pyung Ahn hyung, all twenty one-steps for hands and kicks, and the self-defense sequences — with coaching notes right on the screen.
Shot in this dojang, using the same counts and the same corrections you hear in class. Forget where your foot goes? It is on the site before you get to the car.
